School Council
What? The school council at Yeo Valley School provides a means for children to raise issues and concerns about any aspect of school life. It is a way of consulting all pupils, and it provides a well structured forum for discussion and decision making.
Who? There are two school council representatives from each class who have been elected by their classmates.
Why? We have a school council at Yeo Valley Primary to give children direct experience of dealing with real life issues. The school council helps children to develop a sense of belonging and responsibility to the school and wider community. It involves the opinions of every pupil and therefore encourages listening to others. It gives children a say in what goes on in their school.
How? The school council representatives were chosen because they are approachable and able to fight their case! Other children in the school can give their class reps ideas for school grounds, events or issues that arise. These ideas/issues will be brought up by the reps at the next school council meeting. Class representatives will feed back to their class as soon as possible after the meeting.
When? School council meetings will be held every other Thursday at 12.30pm in the old music room.
